Then, in a rather ridiculous move, Joanna finds
Being a romantic comedy, the two end up falling in love, despite the horrible children, and Joanna's playboy husband finally comes to find her, she has to leave the home she has helped build, and the horrible children who now willing call her mom to return to the life of the rich and famous...until the Coast Guard gets involved and Annie and Dean reunite.
The Swoon Factor |
Emily's Thoughts - Let it hitherto be known that I acknowledge and reiterate the SUPER problematic nature of a movie where a man takes advantage of a woman and tricks her into forced labor. And yet, the chemistry between Annie/Goldie and Dean/Kurt is just too adorable. His dimples are swoony, and you really do believe that these two find themselves in love unexpectedly. SO in love that they dive into the ocean and swim toward one another like two lost lovers. I mean. Adorable.
The Feels Factor |
Emily's Thoughts - After Annie finds some humility in her "rough" surroundings, her care for her fake kids and support of her fake husband is pretty endearing. She teaches Joey, the youngest son, to read. She helps Dean build a business. She stands up to a horribly negligent school principle. And she believes so much in her affection for this new family that she refuses to listen to Dean when he tries to tell her the truth. And she jumps off a boat to get back to them. A surprising amount of feels.
The Skeez Factor |
Emily's Thoughts - A dude kidnaps an amnesiac and convinces her that she's his wife and mother of his children. The dude also convinces his best friend to play along and doctor pictures to create a backstory. An unsurprising amount of skeez.
The Re-Watchability Factor |
Emily's Thoughts - Every dang time it's on the television. I just can't quit this movie. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. it's not high quality movie making, but Garry Marshall had a way of making sweet movies with sweet characters stuffed full of actors and actresses that you enjoy seeing in starring roles or cameos. One of my guilty pleasure faves.
Does this movie receive the Total Weirdos stamp of approval?
