Truth Universally Acknowledged

It is a truth universally acknowledged...that book nerds have endless Austen opinions.  We’ve read the books, watched the movies and miniseries, and imagined ourselves walking through the British countryside (and bumping into our own Mr. Darcy).

Welcome to our month of Jane Austen.  Buckle up, this might get intense.

Let me take you back a few years.  In July of 2017 Emily and I were in Ireland.  One of the many places we went was Walter Scott’s home Abbotsford.  While getting a tour we saw his amazing library and were then taken into the dining room.  It was at this point in the tour that our guide said that in this very room Walter Scott got into an argument with Jane Austen about something book related.  We may have freaked out and immediately scurried back to the library to find the first edition Pride and Prejudice that was apparently hidden in on one of the shelves.

It is very easy to anger a book nerd by inadvertently insulting their favorite Austen adaptation or retelling.  Fights over the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice miniseries vs the 2005 Keira Knightly version can end in bloodshed.  Luckily for you all, your favorite weirdos have managed to consume nearly every adaptation and retelling from the faithful to the barely recognizable and from the excellent to the...not excellent.  (Did you know that there is a stage musical of Pride and Prejudice available to watch on Amazon Prime...we are not recommending that you watch it, just saying it exists)

What is your favorite Austen?  Do you have a favorite movie adaptation or book retelling?
